First edition of Mariage Collection to be introduced at Kentucky Bourbon Festival LAWRENCEBURG, Ky., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing the celebration of its 120 years distilling hand-crafted Bourbon, Four Roses will announce the upcoming release of the first in a collection of limited-edition, small batch products during this September's Kentucky Bourbon Festival. (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080916/CLTU067 ) The Four Roses Mariage Collection takes its name from the French word for marriage, and pays tribute to founder Paul Jones Jr.'s marriage proposal that inspired the brand's identity. "The collection capitalizes on our unique capability to 'marry' distinctly different bourbon recipes by hand to create an exceptional Bourbon," said Jim Rutledge, Four Roses Master Distiller and Bourbon Hall of Fame member. Four Roses is the only distillery that combines five proprietary yeast strains with two separate mashbills to produce 10 distinct Bourbon recipes, each with its own unique character. For the first release, Four Roses Mariage Collection 2008, the master distiller selected barrels representing two of the ten recipes, one is a rich and fruity 13-year-old Bourbon, and the other is a spicy and structured 10-year-old. The resulting "Mariage" is elegant, expressing wonderful complexity and harmony. The collection's future releases will include various other recipe combinations, identified on the bottle hang tag. "This time, we're marrying two rare and unique Bourbons; the next edition could be three or maybe five," Rutledge said. "Each edition will be an exquisite small batch Bourbon that is mellow like all Four Roses products, but with its own unique taste." The 2008 edition of the collection is a barrel strength Bourbon, uncut and not chill filtered. Available in late September, approximately 3,500 bottles will be distributed. Rutledge said the selection of two Bourbon recipes for the first release of the Mariage Collection honors the day Four Roses founder Paul Jones Jr. proposed to a beautiful southern Belle. The southern Belle replied that if her answer were "yes," she would wear a corsage of roses to the upcoming ball. When she arrived at the ball, she wore a corsage of four red roses. Jones named his Bourbon "Four Roses" as a symbol of his passion for her. The distillery kicked off its 120th anniversary celebration earlier this year with the release of a limited-edition single barrel Bourbon that quickly sold out.
