Oct 23 (Reuters) - Affymetrix Inc (AFFX.O) reported a wider-than-expected quarterly loss, hurt by a sharp drop in services and royalty-related revenue, and cut its 2008 revenue forecast.

The Santa Clara, California-based company said subsequent to the end of the third quarter, the decline in stock price led to its market value falling below its net equity value, prompting it to assess whether an impairment of its intangible assets has occurred.

Affymetrix said it expects to complete its impairment analysis during the fourth quarter.

Shares of the company closed at $4.08 Thursday on Nasdaq.
