Hyundai shares jump 3.6 pct after Q3 earnings

SEOUL Oct 23 (Reuters) - Shares in Hyundai Motor (005380.KS) jumped after the world's No.5 auto maker reported stronger-than-expected quarterly results on Thursday.

Hyundai Motor said its third quarter net profit fell 38 percent from a year ago to 264.8 billion won ($187.5 million), but the figure was still stronger than the forecast of 174.9 billion won.

"The won currency's weakness probably helped the numbers come out stronger than the market had expected," said Sung Jin-kyung, a market analyst at Daishin Securities.

Shares in Hyundai Motor rose 2.79 percent as of 0525 GMT, against the broader market's .KS11 5.77 percent drop.
