SAIC Awarded $37 Million Contract to Support U.S. Army Program Executive
Office - Enterprise Information Systems
Company to Maintain and Enhance the Biometrics Automated Toolset - Army System
SAN DIEGO and MCLEAN, Va., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Science
Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAI) today announced it has been
awarded a task order by the U.S. Army Program Executive Office - Enterprise
Information Systems (PEO-EIS) to provide engineering support to help maintain
and enhance the Biometrics Automated Toolset - Army (BAT-A) system. The task
order has a one-year base period of performance, three one-year options and a
total contract value of more than $37 million if all options are exercised.
Work will be performed primarily in Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Kingstowne, Va.
The task order was awarded under the Information Technology Enterprise
Solutions -- 2 Services (ITES-2S) contract.
BAT-A devices collect fingerprints, iris scans, facial photos and biographical
information of persons of interest and store information in a searchable data
base, facilitating the use of biometrics for intelligence exploitation. The
system provides Government forces with the ability to identify, track and
exploit individuals encountered in the Global War on Terror. Through this task
order, the SAIC-led team will help ensure continued, reliable technical
support to BAT-A systems, peripherals and networks.
"SAIC has been the lead BAT-A engineering contractor since 2003, and we look
forward to contributing to the growing biometrics support our fighting men and
women are receiving throughout the world," said John Thomas, SAIC senior vice
president and business unit general manager.
