Technisource Survey: Despite Economic Situation, IT Worker Confidence Rises in
Third Quarter
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The IT Employee Confidence
Index, a measure of overall confidence among U.S. information technology
workers, increased 1.5 points to 47.4 in the third quarter of 2008, according
to a recent survey commissioned by Technisource(R), the technology placement
division of Spherion Corporation. The survey, conducted by Harris
Interactive(R), indicates that overall confidence levels among IT workers
surveyed rose in the third quarter as a result of workers' increased
confidence in the overall economy, as well as in the future of their current
employer. In addition, 73 percent of IT workers report that it is unlikely
they will lose their jobs in the next year, increasing three percentage points
from the second quarter of 2008.
Results from the IT Employment Report:
-- One in 10 technology workers (10 percent) believe the economy is
getting stronger, up two percentage points from the second quarter of 2008 and
27 percent believe the strength of the economy remains steady.
-- Nearly two-thirds of technology workers (65 percent) are confident in
the future of their current employer, an increase of four percentage points
from the previous quarter.
-- Forty-eight percent of technology workers are confident in their
ability to find a new position, compared to 53 percent from the second quarter
of 2008.
"Despite uncertainty in the economic situation, technology workers were
surprisingly more confident in the strength of the economy and their current
positions," said Michael Winwood, President of Technisource. "Our survey this
quarter does not capture the full impact of what the recent fallout of the
financial sector means for IT just yet and I don't expect to see the full
effects until the fourth quarter results are released. For the most part, our
clients remain cautiously optimistic, while IT pros have to wear multiple hats
as organizations consolidate functions. Companies are now re-evaluating their
IT expenditures as they close out 2008."
