Economic Uncertainty Tops List of Reasons Why Americans Can't Sleep, According
to AmericInn Sleep Survey

CHANHASSEN, Minn., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Economic fears, including
personal finances and employment uncertainty, are the top reasons Americans
lay awake at night, according to a recent AmericInn Sleep Survey conducted by
research firm Ipsos for AmericInn Hotels. The survey polled 1,000 U.S. adults
to find out if they are getting enough sleep at night and what issues most
affect their sleep.
AmericInn, the 230-location hotel chain known for being the "quiet hotel,"
found that six in ten (62 percent) survey respondents say they have trouble
falling asleep at least one night per week and nearly 10 percent have a tough
time sleeping every single night. Economic fears (36 percent) tops the reasons
for American sleeplessness followed by high gas prices (29 percent),
health/medical concerns (28 percent), stress over presidential politics (22
percent) and concerns about the Iraq war and global terrorism (12 percent),
according to poll-takers.
Contrary to what one might assume, the survey also revealed that older
Americans (30 percent), a population generally closer to retirement, are less
likely to cite concerns over the economy as reasons for sleeplessness than
younger (39 percent) and middle-aged (38 percent) respondents.
"Americans are stressed these days about the economy, the cost of energy
and food, rising unemployment, two costly wars and the approaching election,"
said Arnold Angeloni, CEO of AmericInn Hotels. "Stress is destructive to a
person's health and an important way to combat stress is with the right amount
of sleep. A recent study by the National Sleep Foundation found that 84
percent of Americans say they just accept their daily sleepiness and keep
going. But why live life this way? Now more than ever, Americans need a good
night's sleep without noise interruptions."
At AmericInn properties, guests are guaranteed a quieter night's stay
because of the AmericInn SoundGuard(TM) construction process. The trademarked
construction method is scientifically proven to physically create quieter
rooms by using masonry block filled with sound-deadening foam, thick drywall
and concrete slab floors to reduce noise between rooms. Insulated windows,
ceilings, corridor walls, guest room doors, thresholds, gaskets and sweeps
also help minimize noise for AmericInn guests.
    About the Survey
AmericInn's National Sleep Quality Survey was conducted online from July
7-11, 2008 by Ipsos, an international market research company with offices in
North America and all over the world. Ipsos polled a cross-section of 1,000
men and women ages 18-55+ across the country. The results are based on a
sample where quota sampling and weighting are employed to balance demographics
and ensure that the sample's composition reflects that of the actual American
population according to Census data. Quota samples with weighting from the
Ipsos online panel provide results that are intended to approximate a
probability sample. An unweighted probability sample of this size, with a 100%
response rate, would have an estimated margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage
points, 19 times out of 20. The margin of error would be larger within regions
and for other sub-groupings of the survey population.
