Colorado to Deploy COPLINK(R) in a Statewide Law Enforcement and Public Safety
Information Sharing Initiative
TUCSON, Ariz., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The State of Colorado, through the
efforts of the Colorado Information Sharing Consortium (CISC), is the most
recent of several states to announce the implementation of an initiative that
will deploy the award winning COPLINK(R) Solution Suite statewide. The
software made by Knowledge Computing Corporation (KCC) is used for tactical
lead generation and allows comprehensive information sharing and collaboration
among local, regional, state and national law enforcement and public safety
agencies.
Aurora Chief of Police Dan Oates has been involved in the project since its
inception. "Because of the mobile nature of criminal activity, sharing
information across jurisdictional lines has become imperative for effective
law enforcement," said Oates. "With COPLINK, agencies all across Colorado will
be able to analyze information not only from their own databases but from any
number of databases across the state. This will give the officers of Colorado
an effective tool to get criminals off the street faster."
"Having a highly visible COPLINK deployment in Colorado is a key cornerstone
in the Rocky Mountain States that furthers our goal to build the first
nationwide crime-fighting network," said Robert Griffin, CEO of Knowledge
Computing Corporation. "The widespread adoption of proven, commercial
off-the-shelf solutions that can be rapidly deployed like COPLINK can
dramatically enhance our nation's safety."
The CISC is the governing board of the COPLINK implementation initiative and
is comprised of the following seven public safety leaders, or "core partners":
Adams County Sheriff's Office, Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, Aurora Police
Department, Colorado Bureau of Investigation (a branch of the Colorado
Department of Public Safety), Denver Police Department, Douglas County
Sheriff's Office, and Grand Junction Police Department.
A pro forma cost model was created and agreed to by the consortium. Because it
was structured after the long standing tier-based pricing used by KCC, the
CISC was able to secure a single license fee for the software to cover use by
the sworn law enforcement population of the entire state. This means that even
the smallest offices in Colorado will be in a position to have access to and
take advantage of this advanced crime fighting and information sharing
technology. In addition to the core partners, several other agencies have
already taken advantage of the opportunity and signed up to join the project.
COPLINK will be fully operational in the majority of these outfits by the end
of 2008.
COPLINK provides unparalleled analysis and decision support by rapidly
identifying criminal suspects, relationships and patterns that help solve
crime and thwart terrorism. It works by allowing vast quantities of structured
and seemingly unrelated data - including data currently housed in various
incompatible databases and records management systems - to be organized,
consolidated and rapidly analyzed over a highly secure intranet-based
platform.
