Spain's Solaria seeks to sell solar farms-paper
MADRID |
MADRID Oct 27 (Reuters) - Spanish solar panel manufacturer Solaria (SLRS.MC) has put 170 million euros ($212 million) worth of solar parks in Spain up for sale after failing to sell them to potential clients, Expansion newspaper said on Monday.
The paper said Solaria started to build the solar farms at the request of potential clients. They later decided not to buy them but the company continued with the construction with the intention of selling them on the open market.
No one at Solaria was availible for comment.
Spain's goverment decided in September to set the cap on subsidised solar power at a capacity level of 500 megawatts for 2009, less than half of the 1,200 MW cap set for 2008.
The goverment also slashed premiums for feed-in tariffs for solar energy, which had helped make Spain the world's third-largest solar market after Germany and the United States.
Expansion said that Spanish solar farm operator Fotowatio has been tipped as a possible buyer for the farms, which are located in the southeast and southwest of Spain and have a combined capacity of 28 megawatts. (Reporting by Jonathan Gleave; Editing by Greg Mahlich)
