FACTBOX: Security developments in Afghanistan
(Reuters) - Following are security developments in Afghanistan at 8 a.m. EDT on Thursday:
BADGHIS - Foreign forces killed seven civilians in an air strike in Ghormach district of Badghis province, 510 km (315 miles) northwest of Kabul, district chief Abdullah said. The air strike was called after a Taliban attack in the district late Wednesday, provincial officials said.
KANDAHAR - U.S.-led coalition and Afghan forces killed several insurgents during a patrol between November 3-5 in the Shah Wali Kot district of Kandahar province, 400 km (215 miles) southwest of Kabul, the U.S. military said. A joint investigation between the U.S. military and the Afghan government has been launched following claims of civilian deaths, it said.
KHOST - U.S.-led coalition forces killed two insurgents in the Jaji Maidan district of Khost province, 135 km (85 miles) southeast of Kabul, the U.S. military said.
URUZGAN - U.S.-led coalition and Afghan forces killed eight insurgents after their patrol came under attack in the Khas Uruzgan district of Uruzgan province, 300 km (185 miles) southwest of Kabul, Tuesday, the U.S. military said.
HELMAND - Afghan and foreign soldiers killed 15 Taliban insurgents after being ambushed in the Naad Ali district of Helmand province Wednesday, 570 km (350 miles) southwest of Kabul, provincial police chief Asadullah Sherzad said.
