CHICAGO (Reuters) - Barack Obama will announce his choice to head the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at a planned news conference on Sunday, aides to the president-elect said on Saturday.

Obama is scheduled to hold a news conference in Chicago at 2 p.m. EST (1900 GMT) on Sunday to mark the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks.

Obama pledged during his presidential campaign to improve services for retired U.S. military men and women if he won the White House.

The news conference is his latest in a string of announcements of appointments to his Cabinet and other top administration posts.
