Protesters occupy Greek consulate in Berlin
BERLIN |
BERLIN (Reuters) - Around 15 demonstrators occupied the Greek consulate in Berlin on Monday to protest against the fatal shooting of a teenager by police in Athens.
The shooting has triggered three days of riots in cities across Greece.
The Berlin protesters took down the Greek flag flying from the consulate and hung up a banner reading "Murderer State."
"They arrived when the consulate opened and declared it occupied," consulate spokesman Pantelis Pantelouris said.
He said they had handed over a statement of protest, but had been peaceful and had not made any demands.
German police said they had mobilized around 130 officers around the building to guarantee access and security.
