The Fantasy Football Open Championship Awards First-Ever Million Dollar Grand
Prize in Fantasy Football History
Shane Schroeder, 31, of Ft. Collins, Colorado Receives $1 Million as the
Winner of the Inaugural Fantasy Football Open Championship

LAS VEGAS, Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Fantasy Football Open Championship
(FFOC) crowned the first-ever fantasy football millionaire at an event at the
Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas yesterday, when Shane Schroeder of Ft. Collins,
Colo. became the winner of the inaugural tournament. The FFOC, a fantasy
football tournament open to the public, provided the richest payout in fantasy
football history in an effort to find the best player in the world. Football
legend and FFOC commissioner Jerry Rice presented Shane with the FFOC
Championship Jacket, a championship trophy and the $1 million grand prize as
fantasy football's first-ever millionaire.
"Who knew fantasy football could change my life?" said Shane Schroeder, a
youth corrections officer from Ft. Collins, Colo., who led his team XFACTOR to
victory. "I've been playing fantasy football for years, but never dreamed
that I would become a millionaire from playing the game. With my winnings, I
plan to pay some bills, start a new business and give some to my folks, who
have always been so supportive of me."
From the thousands who entered the tournament, the top 15 finalists
received an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas to view the Week 16 action,
cheer on their fantasy team and compete for a chance at the $1 million grand
prize. Nobody went home a loser, as the second-place finisher received
$100,000, the third place finisher received $50,000 and all of the top 15
finalists went home with at least $3,500.
"Shane Schroeder took on all competitors and has earned the right to be
called the best fantasy football player in the world," said Stan Misthios,
game architect of the Fantasy Football Open Championship. "Almost as
important as the prize money is that our players truly enjoyed the experience.
We look forward to doing it again next year and giving away another million
dollars."
Sign-ups for the 2009 fantasy football season begin on Jan. 12 and will
feature lower prices, better opportunities and all new packages. Visit
www.FFOC.com for more information. For a low entry fee, prospective
millionaires can test their skills against the world's best fantasy football
players.
Utilizing a proprietary live cutline, the FFOC incorporates Weeks 1-16 of
the football season and 10-team standard snake-draft leagues, with each team
drafting 20 players and featuring an active rosters of ten players -- 1 QB, 2
RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 offensive option, 1 K and 1 DEF. The winner was determined
by the sum of three combined scores: average points from Week 1 through Week
10; average points from Week 11 through Week 15; and points from Week 16.
