Sarkozy may visit Israel Monday: Israeli official

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - French President Nicolas Sarkozy is expected to visit Israel on January 5 as part of international efforts to stem the fighting over the Gaza Strip, an Israeli official said on Tuesday.

"It's not been completely finalized," the official said.

France has proposed that Israel halt its four-day-old air offensive against Gaza's ruling Islamist group Hamas for 48 hours to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza.
