UK Web Filtering Company Opens New Office in North Carolina CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(Business Wire)-- Internet security company SmoothWall today announced the opening of a new US subsidiary in North Carolina. Based in the city of Charlotte, the new office will provide SmoothWall with the strategic location they need to service and build upon their rapidly growing US customer base. SmoothWall is best known for their Guardian intelligent web filtering solution -- which is proving to be a popular choice for US schools, libraries and commercial enterprises. The company has recently installed over 10,000 licenses in New York State alone and in the last 2 years revenue from US schools and colleges has increased by over 200%. Customers include The American Federal Savings Bank, IMI, Adolfson & Peterson and the Detroit Lions, alongside over 1000 public sector and non-profit organizations. Despite the economic slowdown, the worldwide web filtering market grew by 7% in 2008 with strong growth in all regions, especially North America. However, budget cuts mean organizations are increasingly looking for solutions that offer better value for money without sacrificing performance. Richard Moore, Vice President for SmoothWall Inc says this is the key to the company`s success: "Our Guardian filter challenges some of the biggest names in IT on both price and features. Essentially we give schools and businesses the sophisticated security they need, but at a much more sensible price." SmoothWall considered a number of metropolitan areas including Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and Atlanta but dismissed them due to concerns over cost and congestion. As the 5th largest city on the East Coast, Charlotte is a popular business location because of its cosmopolitan atmosphere, highly skilled workforce and excellent transport links to the rest of the US (and the UK) via Charlotte-Douglas Airport. About SmoothWall The SmoothWall family of Internet security solutions helps schools, enterprises and small/medium businesses to prevent misuse, block objectionable content and protect against web related threats. Delivered and supported via a global network of partners in over 60 countries, SmoothWall`s commercial and open source solutions now safeguard more than a million networks worldwide.
