Leading Airline to Discuss Use of Ariba Solutions to Weather Down Economy in
January 20 Webinar
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(Business Wire)--
As the global economy continues its slide, executives have only two levers they
can pull to maintain profitability - manage costs and cash. On January 20,
Ariba, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARBA), the leading spend management solutions provider, and
Procurement Leaders, the leading global magazine for senior procurement,
sourcing and supply chain executives, will host an interactive webinar to
discuss how British Airways (BA), Europe`s largest airline, is leveraging Ariba
offerings to lower costs, increase efficiencies and improve competitive
advantage even in the toughest of times. The interactive session will take place
from 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. ET.

An early adopter of spend management, BA has successfully implemented
technologies and best practice processes to streamline its procurement function,
identify opportunities for savings across a wide range of goods and services and
successfully drive them to the bottom line.

"Back in 2000, Procurement in BA was well established, but buying procedures
were inconsistent, staffing levels were high and around a quarter of spend was
with non-preferred suppliers," said Tim Richardson, General Manager of
Procurement Operations, BA.

In 2001, the company introduced manual strategic sourcing, which started the
change process. But it wasn`t until 2003, when the company implemented Ariba
technology to enable a systematic closed-loop approach to sourcing and
procurement that things really took off.

"While we had used technology to successfully tackle sourcing and generate
significant savings, we were missing out on additional opportunities to lower
our costs by driving efficiencies across the entire procurement process,"
Richardson continued.

So BA undertook a full implementation of Ariba`s spend management solutions,
including Ariba® Buyer™, Ariba Analysis™ and Ariba Contract Compliance™, which
enable it to efficiently manage procurement from sourcing and orders through
invoice and payment.

"BA recognised before many companies that spend management is the fastest, most
efficient way to reduce costs, improve profits and gain competitive advantage,"
said Mike Arenth, General Manager EMEA, Ariba. "Because they acted in good times
when spend management was prudent, they are well-positioned to successfully
emerge from these down times when it is absolutely critical."
