Gordon, Familant Join Baker Botts as Part of Expanded Life Sciences IP
Initiative

Partners' Careers Focus on Biotech, Pharmaceutical Patents

NEW YORK, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Jennifer Gordon and Scott Familant, who have
extensive experience in complex patent matters in the life sciences, joined
Baker Botts L.L.P. January 5, 2009, as partners in the Intellectual Property
Department. Gordon will head up the IP Department's Life Sciences section.
Both lawyers will be based in the firm's New York City office.

Throughout their careers, Gordon and Familant have procured, litigated and
provided counsel on patents involving virtually all aspects of biotechnology,
most notably litigating foundational patents in the areas of nucleic acid
amplification and recombinant antibody production. Their pharmaceutical patent
experience encompasses a broad spectrum, from the earliest therapeutic
proteins and monoclonal antibodies to recent blockbuster drugs for lowering
cholesterol and treating type II diabetes.

Prior to joining Baker Botts, Gordon and Familant were partners at Sidley
Austin L.L.P. They both have advanced scientific and technical training.
Gordon has a PhD in Biochemical Engineering from M.I.T. She received her J.D.,
cum laude, in 1985 from Fordham University School of Law.  Familant earned a
bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Cornell University. He received his J.D.
from The George Washington University in 1990. Both Gordon and Familant are
frequent lecturers on intellectual property topics and have authored articles
on a range of patent issues that impact life sciences patents.
