ServiceNation Celebrates 'A New Era of Service' With Martin Luther King III,
Mayor Adrian Fenty, Tobey Maguire, Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, and Richard
Stengel

ServiceNation, a campaign to promote and expand the American tradition of
citizen service, is hosting a breakfast, "New Era of Service," to celebrate
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and highlight the importance of
President-elect Obama's vision for service and strong, bipartisan support for
service in the Congress. Speakers include Martin Luther King III, Washington,
D.C., Mayor Adrian Fenty, Tobey Maguire, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher. Moore
and Kutcher will premiere the "Presidential Pledge," a Web-based video message
from entertainment luminaries pledging service commitments. Richard Stengel,
Managing Editor of TIME, will also moderate a discussion on service in
America.

Monday, January 19, 2009
8:00 - 10:00 a.m.
Ballou Senior High School
3401, 4th Street, SE, Washington, D.C.
(1.7 miles from the Anacostia Metro Station on the Green Line, free shuttle
bus available to venue)

ServiceNation is working with the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) and
AARP, with key support from Target to host this event honoring the great
legacy and service of Dr. King. It will shine a spotlight on service and
volunteering at a time when the entire country is watching.

At the conclusion of the breakfast, the guests are invited to participate in a
service project with coalition partners at Simon Elementary School (401
Mississippi Avenue, SE), just blocks from Ballou Senior High School.
Volunteers will work on beautification projects ranging from painting
classrooms and murals to transforming the library.

The ServiceNation campaign aims to enhance the American tradition of citizen
service. Service leaders, elected officials, private sector leaders, and
high-profile advocates from entertainment and across sectors will be in
attendance.

Panelists and speakers will focus on the recent advances in national policy
and discuss the potential cultural and financial impact of President-elect
Obama's service plan, as well as pending legislation in the House and Senate,
including the Serve America Act, and the GIVE Act, which will expand and
improve opportunities for service. The goal is to demonstrate broad based
support for a new commitment to service as proposed by President-elect Obama
and a bi-partisan group of key congressional leaders.

ServiceNation is a coalition of more than 120 national organizations convened
by Be the Change, Inc., City Year, Civic Enterprises and The Points of Light
Institute.
