Wounded Soldiers Cycle From Miami to Key West

Soldier Ride is a program of Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) that provides key
rehabilitation opportunities for wounded warriors and raises public awareness
for those that have been severely injured during the current war on terror.
Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit organization whose mission is to honor
and empower wounded warriors. WWP offers services and programs like benefits
and career counseling, advocacy initiatives and combat stress seminars to aid
in the transition from hospital bed to an independent, productive life. All
participants with a disability or missing a limb or limbs are provided the
adaptive equipment they need to cycle.
NOTABLE GUESTS:
-- Jeremiah Church: SPC Church was awarded the Silver Star for
exceptional
valorous conduct as a member of 82d Airborne Division in Caldwell,
Iraq,
on August 8, 2007.
-- Saul Raisin: Saul was a professional cyclist who was injured in a race
leading up to his first Tour de France. Saul suffered a severe
traumatic
brain injury when he crashed in a race leading up to the Tour de
France
and was in a coma for three weeks. He has since recovered and started
a
foundation entitled Raisin Hope and is writing a book about his
experiences called "Tour de Life" http://www.tourdelife.us/.
DATES AND TIME:
Miami, Florida
-- Thursday, January 15, 9:00am: Ride kick-off at Finnegan's Way
Restaurant located at 1344 Ocean Drive. The riders depart at 10:00am
and
proceed down Ocean Drive. The ride ends at the Bruce W. Carter Dept
of
Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Miami on 1201 North West 16th
Street
at 11:30am.
-- Friday, January 16, 9:00 am: Ride begins at the American Legion Key
Largo with a stop at Coral Shores High School in Tavernier. The ride
continues on to the Disabled American Veterans location in Marathon
and
across the famous Seven Mile Bridge.
Key West, Florida
-- Saturday, January 17, 10:00 am: Ride commences at the Naval Air
Station
Boca Chica and will continue through historic Key West and end at the
USS Mohawk WWII Coast Guard Cutter.
