WASHINGTON, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Association of
Homes and Services for the Aging's (AAHSA) President and CEO Larry Minnix
applauded the introduction of S. 118, the Section 202 Supportive Housing for
the Elderly Act of 2009.

If passed, this legislation would strengthen the U.S. Department of Housing
and Urban Development's (HUD) Section 202 Supporting Housing for the Elderly
Program nationwide by providing the vital funding needed to maintain and
improve existing housing, allow housing providers to adjust to cost
fluctuations and expand the supply of affordable housing for seniors both in
urban and rural areas.

Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.) introduced this legislation. Kohl is the chairman of
the Senate Special Committee on Aging. Several of the bill's co-sponsors are
also members of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, which
oversees the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's affordable
housing programs.

"We commend Sen. Kohl and his colleagues for recognizing that our country must
invest in affordable housing to ensure that seniors can find the affordable,
safe and secure housing that they deserve," Minnix said. "AAHSA and its
members call on Congress to support this legislation and help all of America's
seniors have a place to call home."
