Product Innovation MessagingHighlights Customers` Confidence
BOULDER, Colo.--(Business Wire)--
Covidien (NYSE: COV, BSX: COV), a world leader in advanced energy-based surgical
systems, today announced that its Energy-based Devices (EbD) business unit is
launching Trusted Hands, a new, broad-based marketing approach that highlights
EbD`s innovative products and the confidence they have long inspired in
customers.

For more than 40 years, surgeons have relied on EbD products when performing
vital clinical procedures that ultimately enhance the quality of life for
patients. The Trusted Hands message focuses on this demonstrated customer
confidence in EbD`s technological innovation and superior product quality.

The Trusted Hands message, which will be communicated via print, multimedia and
electronic media globally, will focus on the core values and needs of customers
- surgeons, nurses, hospital administrators and biomedical engineers. The
message will show how EbD provides solutions that address the needs and concerns
of medical practitioners.

"We`ve learned from our customers that trust is what matters most. Trust is a
message that genuinely resonates with surgeons and other healthcare providers,"
said Cameron Rouns, Vice President of Global Marketing for Covidien EbD.
"Surgeons have told us that in Trusted Hands, we address the most meaningful
elements of their day-to-day concerns as medical practitioners. Our message
reflects Covidien`s commitment to providing products and technologies that
improve outcomes and enhance the quality of life for patients."

Trusted Hands will focus first on the LigaSure system, which has been used
successfully in nearly four million procedures. LigaSure technology is supported
by more than 200 published peer-reviewed studies in leading medical journals
around the world.

LigaSure instruments are designed to work with the ForceTriad energy platform.
The energy system features TissueFect sensing technology - a proprietary,
software-driven control system that provides feedback on the energy-tissue
relationship more than 3,000 times per second and continually adjusts output and
energy delivery. The result is consistent and reliable vessel sealing delivered
by a highly efficient energy-based platform, which is today used in thousands of
hospitals and surgical centers globally.

"This is the first time we`ve reached out to our customers on this kind of
scale," said Bryan Hanson, President of Covidien EbD. "We are proud to be
leaders in our market segment, and we expect that the new Trusted Hands
messaging will help drive our continued strong growth in the electrosurgery
industry."
