STERLING, VA, Jan 12 (MARKET WIRE) --
Nova Power Solutions, Sun Microsystems, and 901D have teamed to develop
the first commercial off the shelf (COTS) Common Computing Environment
(CCE) solution to pass the rigorous requirements of MILSTD-901D criteria
for Grade "A" heavy weight shock.
The solution, based on the Sun Microsystems Advanced Telecommunications
Architecture (ATCA) Netra CT900 chassis, was developed over the course of
a year in close association with government and industry engineers. The
Sun Netra CT900 chassis meets the Navy's requirements for an open
architecture computing environment which would enable the rapid cost
effective upgrade and support of hardware and not be dependent on
proprietary software. In addition to the Sun chassis and raid storage
arrays, the integrated assembly contains two Nova Power Solutions NPS
2500-54VDC UPS and the entire assembly is housed in a 901D naval
applications rack.
"We are very proud of the accomplishments that our team has achieved,"
said Karl Hantho, president & CEO of Nova Power Solutions. "Earning
MILSTD-901D certification, was the culmination of months of focused
effort, that started with establishing a deep understanding of the
direction and objectives of our Navy customer. The collective knowledge
of the team allowed us to design, engineer and assemble a superior
solution."
This CCE allows for significantly higher computing densities in a reduced
footprint. The 901D rack allows for a direct bolt in replacement of
existing naval computing racks without hot work. The Nova NPS 2500-54VDC
rugged UPS provides higher levels of power efficiency than the AC UPS
units which provide power to most naval computing racks today. The
efficiency and ruggedness of the Nova UPS are unmatched in any
competitive product on the market and allows the Sun CT900 and the
storage arrays to function using available input power, eliminating a
requirement to provide increased service levels at the assembly site.
"This solution truly fulfills the promise of open IT," said Bill Vass,
president and chief operating officer of Sun Microsystems Federal. "This
successful partnership with Nova Power Solutions and 901D has yielded an
open, standards-based solution that will provide an exceptional return on
investment for our government customers."
