SEOUL Jan 12 (Reuters) - A South Korean court has frozen Ssangyong Motor Corp's (003620.KS) debts and obligations for the time being, a court spokesman said on Monday, after the company on Friday filed for bankruptcy protection.
The Seoul Central District Court will decide within a month whether to accept Ssangyong's filing for court receivership, Hong Junho, a spokesman and judge at the court said.
"The court froze Ssangyong's debt and obligations," Hong said by telephone.
"We have much information to review and we will make the decision around early February," he said when asked the timing of a decision on Ssangyong's filing for bankruptcy protection.
On Friday, Ssangyong sought bankruptcy court protection from creditors as it struggles with falling car sales and liquidity problems. (Reporting by Cheon Jong-woo and Seo Eun-kyung; Editing by Keiron Henderson)
