World's First Site for Free Eco-Friendly House Plans CHARLESTOWN, Mass., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- FreeGreen is the first residential design firm to give away designs. Rather than charging for house plans, FreeGreen uses product placements to transfer the cost of plans from consumers to product vendors and service providers. Based on the belief that green homes should be accessible to all, this new design distribution method has enabled FreeGreen to become the largest provider of house plans in the United States. To date, more than 10,000 plans have been downloaded. The site, www.freegreen.com, offers many resources to homeowners, including full construction documents, localized energy reports, 3rd Party Green Certification Checklists, and a search feature to find local green builders. In early 2009, FreeGreen's website will include a social networking application for potential homeowners to connect with green builders, an Open Source platform for architects, and opportunities for homeowners to share their completed FreeGreen houses. "We are redefining house plans as a new form of media," said Dave Wax, CEO of FreeGreen. "In doing so we are simultaneously increasing access to professionally-designed green homes, and creating new revenue streams for home designers and architects." Chief Architectural Officer Ben Uyeda stated, "We realized that the challenge of building better homes is not just about producing green designs, but also about creating a new model for how to deliver green innovation to consumers in a way that improves their quality of life and benefits them financially." FreeGreen generates income from multiple sources, including paid product vendor-placement fees, green builder listing fees, and optional custom-design services for homeowners, with many more revenue streams planned for 2009.
