Swiss franc trims loss on SNB intervention comment
NEW YORK |
NEW YORK Jan 15 (Reuters) - The Swiss franc pared losses against the U.S. dollar on Thursday in a delayed reaction to comments by the Swiss National Bank that the bank will intervene in markets if needed to stimulate the economy.
The dollar traded as low as 1.1217 francs CHF= following the news. It remained higher on the day and was last at 1.1267 francs, up 0.9 percent.
The SNB will use means like market interventions if needed to help the economy weather the unavoidable recession as interest rates are practically at zero, board member Thomas Jordan said on Thursday. For more, see [ID:nZAT008098].
