AMD says to cut global workforce by 9 percent

(Reuters) - Advanced Micro Devices Inc says it will reduce "product company" global workforce by about 9 percent. AMD says reduction will be combination of attrition, divestiture of handheld business and an additional headcount cut of about 900 positions.

* Says executive chairman Hector Ruiz and CEO Dirk Meyer will take temporary

reduction of 20 percent in base salary
