First energy-saving window film manufacturer to meet rigorous standard for
greenhouse gas emissions
SAN DIEGO--(Business Wire)--
Bekaert Specialty Films, LLC today announced it has received the status of
Climate Action Leader by the California Climate Action Registry (CCAR), the
country`s most rigorous voluntary greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting program. The
Company`s carbon footprint which was defined earlier this year had to be
verified by independent auditors Bureau Veritas before being accepted by CCAR.
Bekaert Specialty Films (www.bekaertfilms.com) carbon footprint is published on
CCAR`s website, available at
https://www.climateregistry.org/CARROT/public/reports.aspx.

Bekaert Specialty Films saw the reporting of its worldwide GHG emissions as a
clear step forward in its commitment to environmental stewardship. With more and
more companies and homeowners installing energy-saving products, consumers are
consciously making decisions based on the manufacturer`s commitment to carbon
management.1 In fact, recent research from international consulting firm LEK
Consulting found that 41% of UK consumers believe manufacturers should take the
lead in minimizing the carbon footprint of their future purchases. Bekaert
Specialty Films, manufacturer of Solar Gard, Panorama and Quantum window films,
is the only window film manufacturer to make the investment in certifying its
carbon footprint.

"We`ve continuously led industry advancements, and hope our commitment to
environmental stewardship will help blaze the way for others to define and
publish their carbon footprints," said Christophe Fremont, President, Bekaert
Specialty Films. "We hope our innovation will motivate other manufacturers to
take action and make similar pledges to reducing CO2 emissions. We believe all
energy-saving window film products should be manufactured under stringent
environmental standards to reinforce the energy saving solutions that these
products bring to the consumer, and we are proud to be leading the window film
industry toward that charge."

The California Registry has developed accurate GHG reporting standards and tools
which support organizations in measuring, monitoring, verifying and reducing
their GHG emissions consistently across industry sectors and geographical
borders. "We are thrilled that Bekaert Specialty Films has earned the status of
Climate Action Leader. We believe that its example helps set a positive tone and
a meaningful standard of energy efficiency in the window film industry," said
Gary Gero, President, California Climate Action Registry.

To complement its environmentally-responsible manufacturing processes, Bekaert
Specialty Films has also developed a proprietary Energy Toolbox for the
professional and residential community. This Energy Toolbox helps building
owners and home owners measure the impact and return on investment on window
film, both as a stand-alone energy-saving product, where it can yield up to 30%
savings, and in conjunction with other known energy savers such as lighting
improvements and HVAC upgrades, where it amplifies the return on investment
significantly.

Bekaert Specialty Films has more than 30 years experience in the research,
development and manufacturing of specialty films. Solar Gard window film has
been endorsed by the Clinton Climate Initiative and both Solar Gard and Panorama
window film have long been recognized for their role in reducing energy
consumption in commercial properties, transportation fleets and residential
homes worldwide. Professionally-installed window film is one of the most diverse
products on the market, offering several key benefits to property owners and
managers. In addition to providing measurable energy savings, solar control
window film rejects up to 99% of UV rays which cause premature aging and skin
cancer, as well as fading and glare; solar control window film can be applied to
both flat glass and automobiles. Safety and security window films, many of which
also offer solar control properties, protect building occupants from shattered
glass resulting from break-ins, storms or attacks.
