TABLE-US chain store sales fall 2.3 pct last week-Redbook

 NEW YORK, Jan 21  (Reuters) - Redbook Research on Wednesday
released the following seasonally adjusted weekly data on U.S.
chain store sales:
Year-over-year: Week (w/e 1/17/09 vs year ago)        -2.3 pct
Year-over-year:Month (January 2009 vs January 2008)   -2.1 pct
Month-over-month: (January 2009 vs December 2008)     -2.5 pct
 The Johnson Redbook Retail Sales Index is a sales-weighted
index of year-over-year same-store sales growth in a sample of
large U.S. general merchandise retailers representing about
9,000 stores.
