Siemens aims to sell Areva nuclear stake: report
PARIS |
PARIS (Reuters) - German industrial group Siemens AG (SIEGn.DE) intends to shed its 34 percent stake in the nuclear power plant unit of France's Areva CEPFi.PA, French business daily Les Echos said, in an extract from an article from Friday's edition.
The extract, which did not cite sources, said Siemens had informed authorities of its intention to sell the stake in Areva NP, which specializes in design and construction of nuclear power plants as well as the fuel supply and maintenance.
It said the move would rekindle speculation over a shake-up of the French nuclear sector with engineering group Alstom (ALSO.PA), a Siemens competitor that has expressed interest in a tie-up with Areva, and oil group Total (TOTF.PA) potentially interested in a deal with Areva.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy said in June last year that a decision over the future of the Siemens Areva alliance would have to be taken in 2009.
