UPDATE 2-Glaxo, Roche announce UK govt flu deal
* Is part of about 18 mln course govt antiviral purchase
* Financial terms not disclosed (Adds Roche part of deal)
LONDON Jan 29 (Reuters) - GlaxoSmithKline (GSK.L) and Roche (ROG.VX) have secured deals to supply the UK with antiviral drugs, they announced on Thursday.
Glaxo is to supply 10.6 million treatment courses of its antiviral Relenza to the UK government, while Roche is to supply 7.6 million treatment courses of Tamiflu.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
The UK government is boosting supplies after deciding that it should have enough drugs to treat half of the UK population.
GlaxoSmithKline UK general manager Simon Jose said in a statement: "By doubling the size of the UK antiviral stockpile and diversifying it to include Relenza, the government is recognising the vital role that antivirals are likely to have in reducing the potentially devastating effects of an influenza pandemic."
The agreement is part of an additional approximate 18 million treatment courses of antivirals the government purchased on Thursday. (Reporting by Ben Deighton; Editing by Jon Loades-Carter)
