Health reform seen on track despite Daschle
WASHINGTON |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus said on Tuesday that the timetable for U.S. health reform remains largely on track despite the decision by Tom Daschle to withdraw his nomination as President Barack Obama's health secretary.
When asked whether Daschle's decision to drop out following problems with his taxes would affect health reform, Baucus said "I don't think so.
"The committees are going full speed ahead ... on health care reform and President Obama is totally committed to health care reform," said Baucus, who as head of the Finance Committee will help write legislation overhauling the $2.3 trillion U.S. health care industry. "Maybe a little blip, but I don't think it's much."
