(Reuters) - A Turkish Airlines passenger plane crashed while trying to land at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport on Wednesday, killing nine people.

The plane crashed in light fog some distance from the terminals at Schiphol, which is 20 km (12 miles) southwest of Amsterdam's center.

Here are some details of some previous incidents at Schiphol:

October 1992 - An Israeli El Al cargo plane crashes when the aircraft's no.3 engine separated from the wing. At least 43 people, including the three crew, are killed as it slams into an apartment block in the high-rise Bijlmermeer district as it tries to return to Schiphol Airport.

April 1994 - A KLM-Cityhopper plane crashes near Schiphol killing three and injuring 21.

December 1997 - A Boeing-757 owned by the Dutch airline Transavia crashes on a flight from the Canary Islands. The plane, carrying 205 passengers and eight crew, crashes in force eight winds. Several passengers are injured.

February 25, 2009 - A Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-800 with 134 people aboard, flying from Istanbul, crashes at Schipol. At least nine people are killed and 25 injured.
