Andrew McCarthy joins "Gossip Girl" spinoff

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Andrew McCarthy has joined the cast of the "Gossip Girl" spinoff, playing Lily Rhodes' father, Rick, a music company executive.

The CW show will chronicle Lily's (Brittany Snow) wild teen years in 1980s Los Angeles.

McCarthy joins Snow and Krysten Ritter, who plays Lily's sister Carol.

Co-starring on a show set in the '80s is fitting for McCarthy, who was a big '80s movie star, appearing in such features as "St. Elmo's Fire," "Pretty in Pink" and "Less Than Zero." He most recently co-starred on NBC's "Lipstick Jungle."
