WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The chairman of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday said he was looking at tax proposals as a way to claw back bonuses paid to employees of American International Group after its bailout by the government.

"The country is angry and I am angry," said committee chairman Max Baucus in remarks at a hearing on tax issues and the financial sector.

Baucus vowed to do everything in his power to explore ways to get the money back, including tax proposals.

AIG disbursed millions of dollars in bonuses to employees after receiving billions in taxpayer aid, unleashing a wave of public anger.

"We are looking at various ideas and will discuss them with various committee members shortly," Baucus said.
