Monitise, Carphone sign mobile banking software deal

March 19 (Reuters) - British mobile banking technology firm Monitise Plc (MONI.L) and mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse (CPW.L) formed an alliance to provide Monitise's mobile money software on handsets, the companies said on Thursday.

No financial details were given.

The alliance also covered a wide variety of initiatives including 'in store' and 'online' promotions and incentives for consumers to get linked up to their money 24/7, Monitise, which counts HSBC, NatWest and Alliance & Leicester among its customers, said.

"The alliance with the Carphone Warehouse is a milestone agreement for us and our partners and it creates the largest 'Mobile Money' ecosystem in the world," said Alastair Lukies, Monitise's Chief Executive.

At 0840 GMT, Monitise shares were up 3.3 percent at 3.875 pence, while Carphone shares were up 2.6 percent at 117.25 on the London Stock Exchange. (Reporting by Ramkumar in Bangalore; Editing by Gopakumar Warrier)
