BROOKLINE, Mass.--(Business Wire)--
Bryan Bergeron, MD has received the prestigious Book of the Year Award from the
Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, for his work on data
warehousing. Developing a Data Warehouse for the Healthcare Enterprise features
an actual data warehousing project plan, and illustrates how implementing a data
warehouse can help drive process improvements and increase patient safety and
quality of care.

The Book of the Year Award honors work that offers outstanding practical
guidance and/or strategic insight for healthcare information and management
systems professionals. A physician, intellectual property consultant and
healthcare informatics expert, Bergeron writes a first-hand account from the
trenches, with lessons for enterprises in all industries. The book was published
in 2008 by HIMSS.

"Delivering quality, affordable healthcare in a timely manner is possible with
appropriate human processes, leveraged with appropriate enabling technologies,"
said Bergeron. "Of the emerging technologies in healthcare, business
intelligence, knowledge management, and data warehousing hold the greatest
promise as enabling agents. However, working with these technologies requires an
understanding of the potential implementation perils, costs, and reasonable
expectations of return on investment."

The book chronicles Bergeron`s experiences with a data warehouse implementation
at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSH&RC) in Riyadh,
Saudi Arabia. Co-authors include Hamad Al-Daig, BS, MBA; Enam UL Hoque, BS, MBA,
PMP; Fadwa Saad AlBawardi, BS, MS; Osama Alswailem, MD

KFSH&RC is a large, modern, tertiary-care hospital with an IT environment that
parallels a typical U.S. hospital. The authors offer an honest assessment of
their journey-from the lessons learned and methods explored to the solutions
ultimately achieved. The final implementation transformed KFSH&RC into a more
effective knowledge-based organization.
