Fast return on investment and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
are the key drivers in Chilean initiative
VANCOUVER, March 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Smartcool Systems Inc. (TSXV:
SSC) is pleased to report the company has signed a distribution agreement with
Gestión en Energia S.A. (GEESA), a Santiago-based company. GEESA is now the
exclusive distributor for Smartcool's Energy Savings Module(TM) (ESM(TM)) in
Chile.
With electricity rates averaging $0.12 (USD), and four times the number of
cooling degree days (CDD) than are experienced in Vancouver, Chile and in
particular its capital Santiago is an ideal market for Smartcool's technology.
Chile is presently ranked second in South America for per capita carbon
dioxide emissions (almost 80% of the country's electricity is supplied by
carbon based fuels), making energy efficiency and the related reduction in
greenhouse gas emissions a key concern for the country.
"The initial response to our test marketing was extremely well received,"
stated Pedro de Solminihac, General Manager of Gestión en Energia S.A. "Energy
efficiency technologies are being looked upon very favorably in this market,
but it is the return on investment the ESM(TM) provides that makes it stand
out from the crowd. Becoming the exclusive distributor of the ESM(TM) became a
priority for us and we are extremely pleased to now be working with the
Smartcool team."
Smartcool's energy efficiency technology has undergone rigorous testing with
third party engineers, utilities and universities as well as on-site customer
testing. There is now a catalogue of evidence that Smartcool's ESM(TM) and
ECO(3)(TM) technologies provide significant reduction in electricity usage in
air conditioning and refrigeration systems. This translates into considerable
cost savings and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
"We have already completed the test phase of the ESM(TM) at two locations in
Santiago for a major grocery chain, with very favorable results," added Norman
Ramsey, Director of Sales at GEESA. "We are now entering into discussions with
respect to a more comprehensive roll-out for this customer. This is a major
step for us and will be an excellent reference point for the ESM(TM) in this
region."
"Working with the GEESA Group has been a pleasure," commented Chris Lefaivre,
V.P. Sales for Smartcool Systems Inc. "The South American region has been of
interest to us for some time as the warmer temperatures and higher electricity
rates create a great environment for our energy efficiency technologies. This
region has significant carbon emission issues and being part of the solution
to this problem is extremely exciting for us. We are convinced that the GEESA
team has a very large opportunity in front of them and that they are perfectly
equipped to take advantage of it."
