VIENNA, VA, Mar 24 (MARKET WIRE) --
Shared Spectrum Company (SSC), a leading provider of dynamic spectrum
access wireless technology, today announced that Thomas A. Stroup, a
wireless communications industry executive with over 20 years experience,
has joined the company as Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Stroup will take over the position previously held by Dr. Mark
McHenry, a pioneer in dynamic spectrum access systems who founded SSC in
2000. Dr. McHenry will continue with the company as President and Chief
Technical Officer.
"We have reached a growth point where we really needed someone with
extensive executive-level experience growing a company," said Dr. McHenry.
"Tom's success leading wireless companies combined with his deep knowledge
of the wireless spectrum marketplace make him an outstanding person to
lead SSC. Equally important, he shares our passion for unlocking our
national RF spectrum to enable broadband wireless growth."
Most recently, Mr. Stroup was CEO of SquareLoop Inc., a Reston-based
provider of geographically-targeted messaging to mobile phones, PDAs and
other wireless devices. He is also past president of the Personal
Communications Industry Association and led the efforts of the wireless
industry to obtain spectrum allocations, create regulatory structure, and
develop industry standards.
"In a world increasingly dependent upon wireless communications, accessing
spectrum will be key to the growth of many industries," said Mr. Stroup.
"SSC has developed the technology to safely open access to the many bands
of underutilized spectrum in this country."
He has held a variety of leadership positions in the communications
industry, including co-Founder and CEO of CSM Wireless LLC, which holds
mobile phone licenses in six markets. He also has served on the board of
several technology organizations, including the Virginia Center for
Innovative Technology.
Previously, Mr. Stroup served as the President and CEO of P-Com Network
Services Inc., where he grew the company to over $45 million in revenues
and over 400 employees within three years. Before P-Com Network Services,
Mr. Stroup was founder, President, and CEO of Columbia Spectrum
Management, a premier wireless telecommunications consulting and
negotiating firm that he grew to over $21 million in revenues in under
three years.
Mr. Stroup holds a BS, summa cum laude, in Public Administration from the
University of North Dakota. He is also a graduate of Georgetown University
Law Center where he served as Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal.
