Carnegie Mellon Professor Kannan Srinivasan Awarded First Rohet Tolani
Distinguished Professorship in International Business

 

Tepper School of Business Chair Aimed at Furthering Global Research In
Emerging Markets

PITTSBURGH, March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Kannan Srinivasan, a marketing professor
at Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business, has received the
first Rohet Tolani Distinguished Professorship in International Business. The
professorship was established by Rohet Tolani, vice chairman and leader of the
Singapore arm of the Tolani Group, who earned a master's degree in Industrial
Administration from Carnegie Mellon in 1977. The Rohet Tolani Distinguished
Professorship in International Business has been created to further academic
research and education relating to developing markets in nations including
Singapore, India, China, Africa and in other areas of the world.

Srinivasan, also the H.J. Heinz II Professor of Management, Marketing and
Information Systems, worked as a product manager for Proctor & Gamble prior to
earning his Ph.D. at the University of California at Los Angeles. His teaching
and research interests include: entry deterrence; marketing/manufacturing
interface; asymmetric information models of strategic behavior; dynamic brand
choice models; purchase incidence models; and structural models.

Professor Srinivasan has published more than 50 papers in leading business and
statistics academic journals in the areas of marketing and management science.
He will soon be publishing new research dealing with path analysis using click
stream associated with online browsing and an empirical study on how Internet
auction companies have developed innovative tools that allow sellers to reveal
more information about their credibility and product quality to avoid the
"lemons" problem. 

Likewise, Kannan's paper, "Wider Product Line:  A Necessity To Achieve
Success," is another reflection of his understanding of the relationship
between marketing and operations.  The paper, which was co-authored with
Sunder Kekre, the Bosch Professor of Operations Management at the Tepper
School of Business, was recognized by, Management Science as one of the
academic journal's "Ten Most Cited" marketing papers.  Kannan, himself, is the
second-most published author in the history of this leading academic journal.

Srinivasan also serves as associate editor of Management Science, area editor
of Marketing Science, and associate editor of Quantitative Marketing and
Economics. He currently instructs a master's degree course, Marketing
Management, and a Ph.D. course, Analytical and Structural Marketing Models. 

Tolani and his wife, Arshna, live in Singapore with their family. Since its
beginning in 1950, the Tolani Group has become a prominent name in the fields
of global shipping and education. Through the Tolani Education Foundation, the
Tolani Group has established several academic institutions in India, including
the Tolani Maritime Institute (TMI), the Tolani College of Commerce and the
Tolani Institute of Management. The Tolanis have been instrumental in many of
the group's educational initiatives.
