U.S. still considering troops for Mexican border
WASHINGTON |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is still considering standby plans for the use of National Guard reserve troops to help contain a feared cross-border spread of Mexican drug cartel violence, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said on Tuesday.
As she unveiled other border security measures, Napolitano told reporters that before a troops plan is completed she wanted to discuss the issue with Texas Governor Rick Perry, who has requested guard forces.
Napolitano said she would meet with Perry on Thursday.
