Anti-capitalism protesters publish spoof FT

LONDON | Fri Mar 27, 2009 3:19pm EDT

LONDON (Reuters) - Anti-capitalism protesters handed out copies of a spoof Financial Times in London on Friday and set up a website in the style of the influential business daily.

London is hosting the G20 summit next week and a variety of protest groups are planning demonstrations in the coming days.

A group calling itself "Reclaim The Sheets" said in an e-mail it had published the spoof.

It said the 12-page paper in the FT's familiar salmon pink reflected events in 2020 and revealed how action taken in 2009 had reined in climate change.

The website ft2020.com/ carried headlines such as "Capitalism isn't really democracy - official" and "There is such a thing as society, PM says."

The link headlined "England crash out" had an all too familiar ring for fans of English sport.

The Financial Times newspaper said it had seen the spoof.

"This isn't the first time that this has happened. We will continue to focus on reporting and analysing the G20 summit next week," the newspaper said in a statement.

"It's not the FT, no comment," it added wryly, adapting its "No FT, no comment" advertising slogan.
