Maxim Introduces Its Range of IP Camera and DVR Solutions At ISC West,
International Security Conference and Exposition
SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 30, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Maxim Integrated Products
(Nasdaq:MXIM), a leading provider of ICs for the security and surveillance
market, today announced their new reference designs for IP cameras and digital
video recorders (DVRs). Responding to market demands for networked digital
video, intelligent monitoring, and high-resolution imaging, the designs utilize
high-definition (HD) H.264 video codecs powered by Mobilygen, a wholly owned
subsidiary of Maxim Integrated Products. These designs provide customers with
complete system solutions, including hardware designs and software applications.
HD IP-Camera Reference Design
Maxim's latest IP camera reference design is the Mobicam3, based on the new
MG2580* H.264 video codec system-on-chip (SoC) solution. The MG2580 provides
720p-resolution HD video with simultaneous still-image capture, multiple
secondary camera streams, hardware encryption, electronic pan-tilt-zoom (ePTZ),
and extremely low power consumption. The Mobicam3 reference design supports
intelligent monitoring based on an analytics package that includes motion
detection, intelligent object tracking, and an advanced PC-based monitoring
application.
"We clearly see the shift to HD resolution driving the transition from analog to
IP cameras, but the added features that higher resolutions enable are the real
game-changers," said Chris Day, Executive Director in the Multimedia Business
Unit at Maxim Integrated Products. "A single MG2580-based camera can potentially
replace several analog cameras, while offering greater video quality,
eliminating the need for mechanical PTZ systems, and enabling intelligent
monitoring to assist human operators. The reasons to replace analog cameras with
intelligent, high-definition IP cameras are very compelling at the price points
enabled by this solution."
Multichannel DVR Reference Designs
Maxim(r) is also introducing its range of DVR reference designs, all based on
the highly flexible Mobilygen(tm)-powered MG3500 video codec SoC. The MG3500
integrates a multichannel H.264 codec, ARM9(tm) embedded CPU, Ethernet and USB
network connectivity, AES/SHA encryption for secure streaming and recording, and
HD video output for multichannel monitoring. The reference designs include the
following:
* An extremely low-cost embedded DVR, based on a single MG3500, that
can be configured to record four D1 or sixteen CIF video channels,
while providing RTP/UDP network streaming and USB hard disk or
SD(tm) card storage. This design comes complete with a DVR
middleware software solution that includes a sample graphical user
interface.
* A sixteen-channel "hybrid" DVR design that supports sixteen full
D1-resolution recordings, simultaneous network streaming, HD video
output, and connectivity for both analog and IP-cameras.
* An eight-channel PCIe(r) card design for scalable, PC-based DVR
systems. This card design supports de-interlacing and full D1
resolution, high-profile, H.264 video encoding for the very highest
quality recording, in addition to network streaming and HD video
output.
Demonstrations highlighting these new Maxim reference designs will be conducted
during ISC West 2009, April 1-3, 2009, in conference room 2003 of the Venetian
Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Customers can contact their Maxim sales
representative to schedule an appointment.
