ECO-A-WEAR(TM) BY TEIJIN
NEW YORK, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- It's 2009, and leading retailers in the US,
UK and Japan are closely looking at a new range of recycled yarns from Japan's
Teijin Fibers Ltd, for the creation of high quality fabrics and the production
of suits and trousers.
One of the unique recycled yarns that Teijin Fibers produces is ECOPET(R),
which is made from recycled plastic bottles. Having been created through a
one-of-a-kind process using ECOPET(R), this new fabric is called
ECO-A-WEAR(TM). The company that innovated this process is N.I. Teijin Shoji,
Co. Ltd., a global company that manufactures fibers, textiles and apparel.
Teijin, through ECO-A-WEAR(TM), is introducing the first
environmentally-friendly polyester and wool blend fabric in the world. What
makes this fabric ecologically friendly is that it is made from recycled
plastic bottles and blended with wool creating a fabric that is elegant, soft
to the touch and even wrinkle resistant.
Other ECO-A-WEAR(TM) products include blends with Viscose and Cotton or 100%
fully recycled Polyester.
ECO-A-WEAR(TM) fabrics are produced with greener results as fabricating it
does not rely solely on petroleum. Recycled polyester fiber is generated from
used plastic bottles that are collected, processed into flakes then ground
into pellets, and made into polyester staple fibers. These fibers can then be
woven or knit into superior fabrics.
Some apparel made with ECO-A-WEAR(TM) fabrics can also be machine washed with
spectacular results cutting down the need to dry clean clothing. Most dry
cleaners use perchloroethylene (perc) a clear, colorless liquid that can
negatively affect the atmosphere. Some of ECO-A-WEAR(TM) products eliminate
the need for dry cleaning.
"Interest in sustainability has grown with the consumer more aware about waste
output," states Moses Cohen, Business Development and Project Manager at N.I.
Teijin Shoji (U.S.A.) Inc. "At Teijin, we are dedicated to create products
that are as economically advantageous as they are ecologically sound. We are
very committed to solving the problem of waste and through our research and
development have invented a process that utilizes disposed plastic bottles to
create fashionable fabric. It has taken Teijin two years to perfect
ECO-A-WEAR(TM) and now we are bringing it to market."
