"From Seneca Falls in 1848 to Afghanistan a few years ago, the struggle for
women's suffrage is a long one. The Republican Party stands for liberty
everywhere and has been a critical force in both establishing and protecting
women's rights in the United States," Chairman Steele said. "The Republican
National Committee honors women such as Margaret Chase Smith, who was the
first woman elected to both the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.
We admire the strength of women such as Clara Cressingham, Carrie Holly, and
Frances Klock of Colorado who were the first women to serve in any state
legislature. And we look up to women such as Representative Kay Granger, who
led a delegation to help train and prepare Iraqi women candidates for their
first exercise in democracy."

America's 10.1 million women-owned businesses employ more than 13 million
people and contribute nearly $1.9 trillion to the economy. These inspiring
women are who Republicans are fighting for today, ensuring lower taxes, less
government intrusion and more open markets, said RNC Co-Chairman Jan Larimer.

"As a proud resident of Wyoming, the Equality State, the first state to grant
women the right to vote, I encourage Republican women from across the country
to sign up at GOP.com and join the RNC Women's Coalition," RNC Co-Chairman Jan
Larimer said. "It is an excellent opportunity to take action in their states
and communities, as well as support Republican women to run for elected
office."

RNC Secretary Sharon Day said, "Last election, women's representation in the
US Congress increased. The 111th Congress has 91 women members, 17 in the US
Senate and 76 in the US House. As we expand the Women's Coalition at the RNC,
Republicans everywhere look forward to having more and more women
representatives throughout their counties, states and in Washington."
