CAMP HILL, Pa.--(Business Wire)--
Patients can get one free 30-day generic drug prescription from a list of more
than 300 of the most commonly prescribed maintenance generic drugs when signing
up for the free Rite Aid (NYSE:RAD) RX Savings Card at North Carolina Rite Aid
pharmacies. Patients already signed up for the card also are eligible for one
free 30-day prescription of the select generics with a new, refilled or
transferred prescription.

This offer is available now through June 30, 2009, and the free prescription
must be filled within that period. The list of 300 generics eligible for a free
30-day prescription is available at the 247 Rite Aid pharmacies throughout North
Carolina.

The Rite Aid RX Savings card, which requires no membership fee and is free to
anyone who enrolls, provides significant savings on more than 10,000
prescription drugs, as well as discounts on Rite Aid brand products, including
1,500 over-the-counter medications.

Applications for enrollment can be obtained at any Rite Aid pharmacy in North
Carolina, with card benefits effective as soon as the application is completed
and turned into the Rite Aid pharmacy. Benefits of the free card available at
more than 4,900 Rite Aid stores nationwide include:

* Access to more than 500 generic medications at $8.99 for a 30-day supply or
$15.99 for a 90-day supply for each prescription;
* A 20% discount on all other generic medications and brand drug prescriptions;

"The continuing economic crisis has caused many Americans to lose their jobs and
their health insurance. Even many who are steadily employed are without
insurance," said Bill Wolfe, Rite Aid group vice president, pharmacy. "The Rite
Aid RX Savings Card offers the best overall value to our uninsured patients,
those without coverage for certain drugs and those who have reached their
benefit limits."

"It is critical for patients with chronic diseases to stay on their therapy, and
generic pharmaceuticals represent a cost effective way to do that. That`s why
our list of 30- and 90-day generics at $8.99 and $15.99 cuts across most
therapeutic categories and includes some of the most widely used generic drugs
such as the common antibiotics amoxicillin and cephalexin, amlodipine or
simvastatin to treat cardiovascular conditions, loratadine for allergies,
ranitidine for gastrointestinal conditions, and sertraline, which is an
antidepressant," said Wolfe.

Rite Aid pharmacists are always available to provide information on generic
products and discuss treatment options with the patient`s physician.

Customers can get a list of the more than 500 discounted generic medications
covered by the Rite Aid RX Savings Card at www.riteaid.com. Information on the
generics that apply to the first prescription free offer can be found at North
Carolina Rite Aid stores. The card can be used for prescriptions for any member
in a family, including pets, but cannot be used in conjunction with prescription
insurance. Those receiving benefits from publicly funded health care programs
are ineligible.

Patients using the card also receive a 20% discount on flu shots and
immunizations given directly by Rite Aid pharmacists. Currently more than 1,300
Rite Aid pharmacists at over 1,000 Rite Aid stores across the country are
specially trained to give immunizations including influenza, pneumonia, tetanus,
hepatitis A and B and others to patients age 11 or older (patients must be age
18 or older in some states) all year. For additional information on pharmacies
that offer year-round immunizations, visit www.riteaid.com.
