Wins top awards among Mid-Cap companies in annual IR Magazine Survey
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(Business Wire)--
Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) has won IR Magazine`s Grand Prix award for Best Overall
Investor Relations among Mid-Cap* companies in 2009 based on a survey of 2,700
analysts, portfolio managers and retail investors. Also, Regina Nethery -
Humana`s Vice President of Investor Relations - won the award for Best Investor
Relations Officer among Mid-Cap companies in the annual IR Magazine nationwide
survey.

The 14th annual awards were presented late last week in New York. When
presenting the Best Overall Investor Relations (Mid-Cap) award to Humana, IR
Magazine quoted one of its survey respondents who said, "Humana puts its
operational executives and managers in front of investors. While a lot of larger
firms only introduce investors to three or four individuals, Humana involves
probably a dozen of its people. Senior management members aren`t fearful of
letting others in their organization speak to investors, which is comforting to
institutional shareholders."

IR Magazine also recognized Humana`s Vice President of Investor Relations,
Regina Nethery, as its 2009 Best Investor Relations Officer among Mid-Cap
companies, quoting another survey respondent who said, "Regina is very
professional and accommodating. Other IR people tend to treat investors with
less respect or are not as helpful during boom times, but they fall all over
themselves to talk to us when times are bad for their stock. Not Regina - she
has been consistent throughout these (good and bad) times."

As Humana`s VP of Investor Relations, Nethery is Humana`s primary liaison with
Wall Street analysts, shareholders and potential investors.

Respondents to IR Magazine`s annual survey were asked to judge the quality of
investor relations, not stock market performance. Companies did not enter
themselves; any publicly traded U.S. company could be nominated in the
open-ended investor-perception study.

A complete list of 2009 award winners and other information is available on the
IR Magazine Web site.

* Mid-Cap companies in this survey have a market capitalization between $2.5 and
$9.9 billion.
