Spain's Prisa hikes price of top daily newspaper

MADRID, March 30 | Mon Mar 30, 2009 6:31am EDT

MADRID, March 30 (Reuters) - Spanish media group Prisa (PRS.MC) has increased the price of its daily newspaper El Pais by 9.1 percent to 1.20 euros a copy from Monday to Saturday.

In its Monday issue, the left-leaning newspaper said its Sunday editions would remain at the same price of 2.20 euros.

"The increase will allow us to guarantee readers the news quality they demand and undertake future projects under a difficult backdrop given the world economic crisis and falls in advertising," the paper said on its front page. (Reporting by Robert Hetz and Sarah Morris; Editing by Greg Mahlich)
