LONDON (Reuters) - Riot police staged baton charges on Wednesday to try to disperse anti-capitalism protesters gathered around the Bank of England on the eve of the G20 summit.

Sporadic clashes had broken out during the day and the charges against a hard core of protesters appeared designed to try to clear the area before nightfall.
