'You Can Take it With You': Portable health record sticks around as you
change doctors and other health care providers

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J., April 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- While the government
strives to deliver electronic health records for all Americans by 2014 - Medco
Health Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: MHS) and Google Health(TM) are working on that
promise today. The companies' collaboration enables Medco's more than 60
million members to construct their own online personal health record (PHR),
effectively creating a secure and private place for their health information
to be stored.

Those members who choose to create a Google Health profile -- which can
contain both pharmacy and medical record data -- and authorize Medco to
transfer their prescription information into the profile, can then use it to
share their information with physicians or other health care providers to
ensure those providers are working with the most current and accurate
information. And when physicians and health care providers have easy access to
a member's complete and accurate pharmacy information, it can help prevent
serious medication hazards, especially in an emergency situation. Having this
information stored electronically via Google Health is also useful when a
member adds or changes health care providers.

"Health IT is the foundation for improving care and lowering costs. Our
collaboration with Google puts patients in control - empowering their
physicians, pharmacists and other care-givers with actionable, comprehensive
and current information," said John Driscoll, President, New Markets, Medco.
"Storing all your health information, including medications, in a portable
format is critical to ensure consistent care, even if you change physicians,
addresses, employers or benefit plans."

Google Health's integrated pharmacy partners give more than 100 million people
access to their prescription history online. There is no cost for the
service, which is completely voluntary. Prescription history can be updated
quickly to Google Health with a few clicks and people using the product will
be alerted to any potential drug interactions with other medications, diseases
or allergies. When members incorporate their own information into Google
Health about their medical conditions and the use of any herbal supplements,
vitamins or over-the-counter medications, health care professionals can make
better informed decisions.

"Getting access to a comprehensive list of medications is important for
improved patient safety and reducing medical errors," said Sameer Samat,
Product Director, Google Health. "Working with Medco, one of the nation's
leading pharmacy benefit managers, empowers our users to get electronic copies
of their complete medication history, including all prescriptions filled at
their local drugs store or through their mail-order benefit, and save it to
one central place online."

Personal Health Records are seen as an important part of improving efficiency
in health care and also reducing preventable medical errors, which kill tens
of thousands of patients annually. A pharmacy history is not only important
from a safety perspective, but it also serves to help manage chronic
conditions. A clinician can review what sort of progress is being made to
control cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and other chronic
conditions that affect millions of Americans. Insights can be gained from
these records about whether a treatment regimen is effective or whether a new
approach is needed.
