Volkswagen Canada unveiled its BlueMotionTechnologies brand at this
year's Vancouver International Auto Show (VIAS) as part of its ongoing
sustainability efforts, and confirmed that Hybrid power train technology
would be offered in Canada under this new umbrella brand in the future.

According to John White, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group Canada
Inc., the Volkswagen Brand is responding to the economic and
environmental challenges facing the auto industry:

"Despite a difficult economic climate Volkswagen is well positioned with
its lineup of fuel efficient vehicles to weather the current storm and
prosper in the future. As such Volkswagen has set out to become one of
world's greenest automakers."

White outlined how Volkswagen's global sustainability mission would bring
"important dividends" to the company's efforts in Canada. He noted
Volkswagen's achievements in reducing vehicle emissions and enhancing
fuel economy and efficiency through alternative power trains as
demonstrated through the Canadian introduction of its newest global
brand, BlueMotionTechnologies.

Volkswagen's Canadian chief continued by stating: "Under this umbrella,
Volkswagen Canada will now unite all of its research and development
activities towards environmental sustainability in personal
transportation."

Energy efficiency is shaping the current public debate worldwide, and the
development of efficient and low-emission technologies is regarded as
important to manufacturers and consumers.

This focus on sustainability represents a major and global investment for
Volkswagen in offering choices for vehicle consumers. The company
explained during the recent Geneva Motor Show that the "Green Revolution"
underway today is actually a "Blue" evolution for Volkswagen as it has
been actively practicing proactive environmental measures in all aspects
of its manufacturing over many years.

In Geneva, Volkswagen clarified why it chose BlueMotion, by stating:
"Blue is the colour of the ocean and the sky. Blue stands for freshness,
hope, and lightness, and, of course, blue is also the colour of
Volkswagen."

In short, BlueMotionTechnologies stands for Volkswagen's
German-engineering and design competence in developing
environment-friendly technologies and products.

Volkswagen Canada already offers a number of these fuel-saving and
emissions-lowering BlueMotionTechnologies such as TSI direct injection
engines, DSG dual-clutch gearboxes, and TDI Clean Diesel engines.

The TSI 2.0 litre direct injection gasoline engines are found in the
Volkswagen GTI, Jetta, GLI, Tiguan, Eos, and Passat Sedan and Wagon
models, as well as in AJAC's Best New Family Sedan over $30,000, the
Passat CC. TSI power train technology is a recipe for maximum power with
minimum fuel consumption from a smaller engine. Direct gasoline injection
with a turbocharger allows cleaner and more efficient combustion that
lowers CO2 emissions. This saves fuel and increases power output compared
to naturally aspirated engines.

Another technology that forms an integral part of BlueMotionTechnologies
is Volkswagen's DSG dual-clutch 6-speed gearbox that combines the lower
fuel consumption of a manual transmission with the comfort and
convenience of an automatic. It features a normal mode as well as a sport
mode. When DSG is combined with Tiptronic, the DSG can also be shifted
manually allowing the driver extra sportiness without sacrificing fuel
economy.

Recently, Volkswagen introduced its TDI Clean Diesel engine in the Jetta
Sedan and Wagon. This 2.0 litre 16-valve turbocharged direct injection
common rail Diesel engine delivers more power with 30% more fuel economy
than a comparable gasoline engine.

The new TDI Clean Diesel engine meets the most stringent emissions
standards in North America, resulting in it winning 2009 Green Car of the
Year from "Green Car Journal" during the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Combined with the highly efficient 6-speed BlueMotion DSG transmission,
the Jetta Wagon TDI Clean Diesel has identical highway fuel consumption
figures with the manual model, leading Natural Resources Canada to name
it Canada's Most Fuel-Efficient Station Wagon.

White noted in Vancouver that Jetta TDI Clean Diesels qualify for British
Columbia's $1,500 PST rebate for fuel-efficient vehicles, making these
award-winning models "an even more attractive proposition" for consumers.

Volkswagen will combine its TDI Clean Diesel technology with NOx-exhaust
after treatment and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) in its newest
BlueMotion model: The Volkswagen Touareg TDI Clean Diesel arriving this
spring to Canada. With its direct injection turbocharged 3.0 litre V6
common rail Diesel engine producing 225 horsepower and an impressive 407
lb-ft of torque mated to its 4XMotion permanent all-wheel drive system,
the Touareg TDI Clean Diesel SUV offers both performance and excellent
fuel economy while maintaining a strong focus on the environment.

This focus on sustainability is achieved by using two special types of
BlueMotionTechnologies: a NOx storage catalyst and a SCR converter that
work together to reduce harmful emissions. The storage catalyst
chemically binds the nitrous oxides and the SCR unit transforms them into
nitrogen and water. This new design allows Volkswagen to offer Canadians
one of the cleanest six-cylinder Diesel engines in the world as well as
the most affordable in its class; the new Touareg will start at $48,975
when it is launched in Canada this June.

Volkswagen's chief executive indicated that there is more to come under
Volkswagen's BlueMotionTechnologies: Start-Stop engine idling, brake
energy recuperation, more TDI Clean Diesels in future Volkswagen models
such as the sixth generation 2010 Golf shown in Vancouver, as well as
confirming that it will bring its first gasoline-electric hybrid to
Canada in the near future.
