House lawmaker says Congress will review Pentagon reforms
WASHINGTON |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. House Armed Services Committee Chairman Rep. Ike Skelton said Congress would hold hearings on weapons-buying reforms proposed on Monday by Defense Secretary Robert Gates, saying it was too soon to predict broad congressional support.
He did welcome the Pentagon's review of the Army's Future Combat Systems modernization program, saying his committee had long been concerned about the program, and said it was "good news" that the overall changes were very troop and family-oriented.
"The buck stops with Congress. I'm sure we'll have some very interesting hearings," Skelton told Reuters in a telephone interview. "Better wait until the long song is sung, because Congress will still have to pass judgment."
